How will autonomy transform car typologies in the future ?
In a world where accidents are nearly impossible and car ownership tends to disappear, the necessity of heavy, rigid structures becomes irrelevant. The autonomous car will eventually become soft. Jellycar is a light vehicle consisting of a minimal structure and a thin luminous rubber membrane. It is part of a "hop on/hop off" transportation service for urban areas. During the day it acts as an occulting bubble for its travelers and filters sunlight. At night, it lights up the city.
Material explorations with silicone cast with LEDs and fiber optics allowed the development of the luminous soft shell.
